Lets meet the Kindergarten teacher

I took Ashleigh to meet her Kindergarten teacher yesterday. Her name is Miss Billings. She is Asian and very nice. I liked her right from the start. I have no idea what her teaching methods are or how she will be as Ashleigh's teacher. That's the hard part about moving to a new place and putting my child in a school that is still pretty new. It'll be a learning experience for us all. I am hoping to be a very hands-on room mom so that I can keep a close eye on the teacher.

Ash was very talkative and SO excited to go meet her teacher. She told me on the way that she was going to tell her teacher that she knows how to ride a two-wheel bike. We got instructions on where to go to get to her classroom. The VERY second we walked in, Ashleigh burst in to tears, clung to me tighter than she ever has before and literally WOULD NOT go in the room to meet the teacher. She wouldn't even look at her. She was on the verge of being completely hysterical. I was shocked and very disappointed...and tried REALLY hard not to get mad. I didn't want to overreact and have her be even more scared, so I tried to reason with her, then I tried to distract her, then I tried to ignore her, then I got mad...she just would NOT calm down! I finally looked to Miss Billings for advice--she interjected and told Ashleigh that mommy has homework to do and could she sit and talk to her for a few minutes while mommy worked. I walked away, got the papers the teacher instructed me to fill out and I turned my back to Ashleigh. Within a few seconds Ashleigh was answering the teacher's questions and having a conversation with her. I was glad to hear it. She didn't "show-off" like I thought she should. Ie: she said she didn't know ALL of her letters--which is not true, she has known ALL of them for more than a year now...and she claimed she didn't know how the letters sounds...again, not true, we are still working on them, but she knows about 75% of them. and she told the teacher that she doesn't know how to read--but she does--she can read probably 50+ words. ugh. I was a little disappointed, but I knew that she was just nervous and couldn't remember. Oh-well. at least I know the teacher will figure it out with in a few days of Ash being in class.

5 more days...woah...am I ready for it yet? I think Ash is more ready than I am!
